Pardon Our Progress (POP) Update

🚧 Douglas Construction Update – August 5, 2026 🚧

Here's this week's construction update from the City of Douglas:

• Richards Street Sidewalk Project – Concrete work continues as crews move east toward the Plains Motel. A 10-foot maximum load width remains in effect between Mesa Drive and 4th Street until the project is complete. Overwidth loads must use alternate routes. Paving has not yet begun, as additional sections must be completed first.

• Water Treatment Plant (WTP) Transmission Line Project – Contract documents are nearly complete, and construction is expected to begin next week. This project will improve Douglas' long-term water system reliability.

• North 2nd Street Bridge – Crews are preparing to install the permanent bridge railing. The bridge is expected to remain open, although temporary single-lane closures may occur during the work.

• South 4th Street – The project is complete except for a few remaining punch-list items. The contractor is expected to return within the next couple of weeks to finish those items.

• North 3rd Street – Curb and gutter work on the 300 block is about 90% complete. Road base work continues on the 400 block, with concrete work continuing through next week. If construction stays on schedule, paving is anticipated during the week of August 24.

• Richards Street Bridge Project (WYDOT) – Crews continue making excellent progress on the west bridge approach and bridge expansion joints. The bridge and pedestrian walkway remain closed. Please continue using the signed detour via Yellowstone Highway and Brownfield Road.

• Labonte Road Project – The County and project engineer continue coordinating repair plans. Additional updates are expected next week.

• Warranty Repairs – Manhole warranty repairs on South 2nd and South 3rd Streets remain delayed due to contractor staffing shortages.

• Slurry Seal Project – Streets have been selected and the project is out for bid. City crews are currently crack sealing roadways in preparation for slurry seal work beginning in mid-September, followed by new pavement markings.

🚶 A Construction Milestone

By the end of this construction season, the City of Douglas will have installed or rehabilitated approximately 28,000 linear feet (5.3 miles) of sidewalks! These improvements are a major investment in pedestrian safety, accessibility, and the long-term infrastructure of our community.
